Our youth programs are designed to provide each age group with opportunities in cooking, art, continuing education and fitness to enrich their childhood.

According to the US Department of Education, youth engaged in after school programs benefit in the following ways:

  • Improved academic performance
  • Increased cultural awareness
  • Reduced drug abuse and tobacco use
  • Reduced juvenile crime
  • Lowered childhood obesity
  • Improved social skills
  • Improved self-esteem and confidence

Participants who are transferred to after school programs from Walker School are encouraged to bring a snack to enjoy prior to the start of the program. This year we will provide a fifteen-minute transition period from 2:45PM until 3:00PM to allow time for a snack and to expel some energy between school and park programs. The programs will then run from 3:00PM until 4:15PM from September through December and January through May, with each session requiring registration and payment as listed below.

School Holiday Information

Bedford Park District programs are not in session during District #104 school holidays.

Youth Open Gym

Physical activity is essential to the health and well-being of our youth. Join Anita for an afternoon of fun including Mini Golf, Capture the Flag, American Eagle and much more. Registration is mandatory for this program for parents choosing to send their children in Kindergarten through 4th grades to the Swanson Center after school on a daily basis.

This system will ensure that we have parent emergency contact information and a current waiver on file. The rate will be prorated for youth registered in one or two after-school programs at the Bedford Park District as follows:

  • Participants registered for one after-school program will have their rate reduced by $10
  • Participants registered for two or more after school programs will have their rate reduced by $20

Youth in grades five and up who want to participate in organized games, golf, etc. must also register for the program.

  • Age: Grades K - 6

Arts & Crafts

Arts and crafts classes are essential to child development and promote self-confidence, improve fine motor skills, and teach an abundance of subjects including science. Crafts also allow kids to explore new ideas and then express themselves by making something. We are thrilled to offer after school arts and crafts opportunities for children of all ages. Children need a safe place to go after school and the Bedford Park District art studio is the ideal place to inspire creativity. Participants will work on various projects every week and take them home upon completion.
